The #BlackandHooded Scholarship originated in August of 2017 after a successful launch of the social media campaign and blackandhooded.com photo archive. This scholarship seeks to alleviate the financial burden that many graduate students, especially Black graduate students, face when pursuing post-secondary degrees. Through the generous donations of movement supporters and #BlackandHooded Merchandise sales, #BlackandHooded has awarded 12 scholarships to incoming black graduate students across the nation and across disciplines.

Aubree Surrency

Aubree has graduated from the University of Virginia's Speech Communication Disorders program and is pursuing a career as a Speech Language Pathologist. She always knew that she wanted to make a difference in the lives of others and  went on to pursue this goal at the University of Virginia in the Fall of 2013. After exploring various majors she discovered Speech Language Pathology and reminisced on how important communication was to her in the last moments with my father.
