The #BlackandHooded Scholarship originated in August of 2017 after a successful launch of the social media campaign and blackandhooded.com photo archive. This scholarship seeks to alleviate the financial burden that many graduate students, especially Black graduate students, face when pursuing post-secondary degrees. Through the generous donations of movement supporters and #BlackandHooded Merchandise sales, #BlackandHooded has awarded 12 scholarships to incoming black graduate students across the nation and across disciplines.

Micah Watson

Micah Ariel Watson is a filmmaker and playwright, pursuing her MFA in Dramatic Writing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Her work centers the ways in which Black historical events and the contemporary moment mirror one another, often employing poetry and hip-hop to do so. She recently received the Undergraduate Playwriting Award from the Kennedy Center for her Freedom Struggle coming of age drama Canaan and screened her film 40th & State, a meditation on Emmett Till’s 1955 funeral, at BlackStar F
